To Live In Peace

To Live in Peace" is the title of an autobiography chosen by its author, Manya Ashkenazy. The book is a collection of childhood recollections of life in Crimea at the turn of the century through good times, the dark days of WWI and the Russian Revolution as well as the days of persecution which forced an entire family to leave its homeland. The autobiography then details the trials and tribulations of coming to America (via Turkey) and early life as an immigrant in the new world.

"To Live in Peace" is divided into three sections. The first part is the autobiography of Manya Ashkenazy as told to an American ghost writer and covers the period from the late 1800's to the exodus from Crimea. The second part is the autobiography of Manya Ashkenazy in her own words (please excuse the broken English) and additionally covers hard times in Turkey and the early days in New York City. The third part is written by one of her daughters, Roza Granofsky, which attempts to finish the autobiography where her mother left off. It also details times of separation from her mother prior to coming to America and life in a Turkish orphanage.
