Minutes From Reunion

October 19, 1997
Poconos, PA

1. The Meeting was called to order by Norm who wore the Family Medallion. Norm explained the significance of the Medallion as it was passed around the room. A suggestion was made that everyone think of a prayer as they held it.

Not only was the Medallion passed, but a smelly Cupchunka fish, too. (Courtesy of Norm.) You could see the drool from the corner of Maureen's mouth.

2. Thanks were given to Mickey and Joel for organizing the weekend.

3. A motion was made and passed to accept the minutes of September 6, 1996.

4. Treasurer's Report (Treasurer - Joel Rassman)
As of Sept. 30, 1997 we have $4,877. (A contribution needs to be made to the Memorial Fund.)
The dues structure was discussed
10% of dues is given to a selected Charity
Exceptions will be made if necessary
The reunion meeting is the catalyst for collecting dues

Committee Reports

Sunshine Committee (Chair - Estelle Ashkenazi)
Estelle is trying to update everyone's addresses to send Birthday and Anniversary cards. Any assistance with updated information is appreciated. Thanks for all the hard work Estelle!

Cemetery Committee (Chair - Frank Askinazy)
A moment of silence was observed for the passing of Fanny. Our sympathies go out to her family. Although the family lost one member this past year - we gained three lives. Frank made a motion that everyone stops dying - Joel seconded the motion

Social Committee (Chairs - Mickey, Susan and Marlene)
Mickey presented this report.
This was the 5th Annual (of the new era) Family Circle Meeting.
There was an open forum to discuss future locations for the meeting.
Maureen was added to the committee.
It was agreed that the committee would find the best deal and a suitable location and everyone would be happy.

6. Election of Officers
Morris suggested that an increase in the Officers salaries would make the elections more competitive.
Prior to nominations for President, Joel moved that the poles be closed before they even opened.
Norm is still President. Joel is still Treasurer. Matthew is now the Assistant Treasurer under the tutelage of Joel. And I am still your humble Recording Secretary.

Manya Ashkenazy Memorial Fund (Co-Chairs - Steve Ashkenazi and Janet Fishman)
Janet presented this report.
It was determined that there was not enough money, so the charity would be reconsidered when more money was in the fund.
A discussion began on Hardship Cases.
It was determined that a requester should go to one person (a Chairperson) who would go to any of the other Chairs to see if it is an appropriate request.

Ashkenazy Family Album (Chair - Selma)
Selma has been collecting photos. She will put them on the family videotape, keep them safe and return them. Everyone is encouraged to send their special family photos. (Thanks to Janie, Meyer and Shelly who have already sent their photos).
Thanks Selma for the great video that was shown at the end of the meeting.

9. Family Directory
Thanks to Joel and his secretary/assistant on creating the Family Directory.

10. Web Site
Frank presented this report.
Mitchell put the original Home Page together and it was great. Now the home page is more than 2 years old. Babu's book is on the Home Page. It has been viewed 1,400 times!
Frank can now add to it (pictures, too!). Check it out to see photos from the last Family Circle Meeting.
Send any new or exciting information to Frank and coordinate it with Joel's secretary.

Norm suggested putting together a family tree to post on the Internet. (Norm has a software program for this.) Maureen volunteered to put this together.

Maureen is working on putting the recipes together.

Anne will find out if the family is listed.
Matthew will find out the procedure to be included.
Prices are estimated at $300 - $400 for the parents and $150 for each child.

Getting everyone more involved
Steve suggested a survey to see people's interest.
Matthew suggested getting younger generation together.

Traveling Heritage Museum for the next Family Circle Meeting
Maureen made a motion to bring a piece of heritage to the next meeting.
Consider documents, Jewish memorabilia, etc.

13. Raffle - Selma Deutsch won the raffle. Congratulations.
